PRLog (Press Release) –
Nov 16, 2009 – DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - The International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS), the largest independent marine surveying organisation in the world, has landed on Middle East shores and opened its first chapter in this region in Dubai with Captain Zarir S. Irani as its Regional Director. The Dubai branch will be the focal point of contact for the GCC marine industry. To kickstart its operations, IIMS will be organising its inaugural ‘Marine Insurance and Claims’ seminar at the SP Jain Centre of Management in Dubai Academic City on the 6th and 7th of December 2009.
The upcoming conference on “Marine Insurance & Claims” covers all aspects of marine surveying for hulls and machinery, cargo and small craft, with a diverse and highly experienced array of speakers and delegates coming from around the world to this first seminar in Dubai. It will bring together marine specialists, encourage a lively debate and discussion and provide a networking opportunity between international insurance companies and their brokers, salvage experts, Protection and Indemnity Clubs, marine lawyers, marine surveyors, government policy makers and ship owners.
Mr. John Lawrence, CEO, IIMS-UK says, “With increased problems around the world, marine surveyors are playing a bigger role than ever before - whether it is in pure surveying like pre-purchase surveys and condition surveys, or even more specialised subjects like accident investigation, fraud and loss. The opening of the IIMS Dubai Chapter will provide GCC’s marine surveyors and other marine specialists with a forum to debate and discuss current problems and issues. With the objective of bringing professionalism and integrity to the industry and uplifting the quality of surveying and marine consultancy, the body will impart ongoing education, training and international input to its members as well as work closely with government policy decision makers”.
Capt. Zarir S. Irani, Regional Director-Middle East, IIMS says, “The UAE is a busy hub for marine activities as a large volume of vessels enter its waters on a daily basis or transit through. Fujairah is one of the main bunkering and storing hubs and the Persian Gulf is where most of the world’s energy requirements are exported. As such, a very high level of consultancy, surveying expertise and on-the-spot assistance is needed, and is indeed a challenge. This is where the industry can draw upon the strengths of IIMS with its large network of international members and huge pool of knowledge. So far, government bodies in the region, port athourities and the local Oil and Gas sector have indicated very positive support and interest in association with us which is indeed very encouraging”.
Delegates attending the ‘Marine Insurance and Claims’ can get a deep insight into the industry including interesting information on various facets of Maritime claims and Insurance industry or professional insights into how a Harbour Master works, or what is the future for marine surveyors, why do boats corrode, or the operational and legal elements of a salvage operation. and much more.
